Team description

Nokia Mobile Networks (MN) is responsible for managing Nokia s infrastructure assets, and making select investments in advanced research and development (R&D) to drive innovation for new applications such as 5G. The Architecture, Technology and R&D Foundation (ATF) division within MN will create valuable IP for Nokia by engaging with leading business-to-business (B2B) customers to enhance their competitive advantage.

The 5G DFE & RF IC R&D program within ATF is located in Sunnyvale, California where it innovates and develops differentiating wireless solutions for Nokia s products as well as concepts for future wireless standards in the areas of radio implementation. The team is multi-disciplinary and enjoys fruitful collaborative partnerships with top universities, international research institutes and network operators. We are now looking for Senior Specialist, 5G DSP Systems to join our team.

Qualifications:

In this role, you will be responsible for developing DSP algorithms, system architecture and design for DFE systems that are implemented in digital ICs as part of the delivery of a disruptive transceiver chipset. Disruptive DFE design techniques are warranted to address the proliferation of 5G, to be supported by cost-effective hardware. As a member of the 5G DEF and RF IC R&D team, you will be an active contributor to team goals and, therefore, have a proven track record of professionalism. You enjoy working independently but with an introspective critical viewpoint of conventional design techniques. As Senior Specialist, 5G DSP Systems, you will effectively communicate your design ideas to fellow designers and to Lead Architect.

Requirements

To succeed in this exciting role, we expect you to have 5-7 years or more experience in the relevant technical areas and meet the following technical requirements:

Solid theoretical foundations in:

o Linear and nonlinear systems and statistical communication systems

o Digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms

o Adaptive signal processing algorithms

Expert in DSP algorithms development in Matlab, Simulink, and ADS

Skilled in DSP systems modeling in C/C , in scripting in Python, bash, etc.

Familiarity with Verilog, VHDL is an advantage

Lab experience/skills with spectrum analyzer, logic analyzer, VSA, etc.

Expertise in system-level characterization of analog/RF circuits such as:

o Power Amplifiers (PAs), Low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), Variable Gain (VGA) Amplifiers

o RF Filters, Power Detectors, Dividers, Combiners, Directional Couplers

o Mixers, Quadrature LO Generators, PLLs (Phased-lock loops)

Hands-on expertise or experience in one or more of the following areas:

o Architecture, design/simulation of RF/DFE systems, DSP, and SoC in wireless communication systems

o Fixed-point design and analysis of DSP algorithms

o Wireless systems and standards, e.g. 3GPP, 5G, LTE, WCDMA, GSM, or Wi-Fi

o Digital compensation of RF impairments (e.g. IQ imbalance, LO leak, nonlinearity)

o Noise analysis of wireless transceiver systems

o ADC, DAC, AGC, digital and analog filter design for implementation in ICs

o Multi-stage digital filtering, interpolation, decimation, filter banks

o Timing and carrier recovery, correlation techniques

o LMS, LS, recursive LS, Weiner filter, Kalman filter

o Digital pre-distortion (DPD) of power amplifiers

o Crest factor reduction (CFR) of signals in wireless communication systems

o ARM-based processing systems

Working closely with IC design, system integration / verification, and product management teams

Strong communication and inter-personal skills, developing/driving concepts and ideas with other team members and across other parts of a large organization (or other companies).

Master s degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline) required; PhD desired
