Microsoft Corporation Senior Optical Systems Engineer in Espoo, Finland

Microsoft HoloLens Team is continuing to revolutionize consumer electronic devices. We are currently looking for a Senior Optical Systems Engineer who is innovative and has a passion for display technology to drive development of real-time control algorithms for next generation display technologies.

In this position your role is to facilitate the development and integration of subsystems by reducing ambiguity and managing complexity.


  • Clear and consistent communication in a complex organization with multiple stakeholders

  • Planning, verification and analysis of integration of optical systems

  • Data driven analysis and problem solving to debug integration problems

  • Simulation of system level performance based on subsystem designs and measurements

  • Collaboration with design, prototyping, metrology and manufacturing

  • Design requirements flow down from the system level to subsystems and interface analysis

  • Direct junior engineers and technicians as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in optical sciences, optical physics or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Excellent interpersonal skills ? cross group and cross culture collaboration

  • Strong communication skills and understanding of communication tools required to communicate complex technical details

  • Good understanding on optical systems, diffractive optics, waveguides, imaging optics, light sources, coatings

  • Understanding on consumer electronics hardware manufacturing methods

  • Hands-on experience on simulation of optical systems, especially micro optics

  • Ability to make optical measurements of complicated systems

  • Ability to write and execute optical test plans for systems and components

  • Programming skills with Matlab

Additional Experience Desired:

-Understanding on industrial statistics: DoE, statistical data analysis, Six Sigma, statistical tolerancing

  • Hands-on experience on systems engineering

  • Working knowledge on electromagnetic diffraction theory

  • Hands-on experience on Zemax or CODE V

  • Hand-on experience on Minitab, JMP, SAS or other statistical software

Occasional travelling to Asia or overseas is required.
